Privacy Policy
Your shelf, ratings and wishlist stay on your phone. Location is optional, approximate and never stored by us. Accounts are optional; without one we use anonymous product analytics and hold nothing about you. Sponsored banners are labelled, the same for everyone, and never chosen using your data.
Effective: 10 September 2026 · Last updated: 8 October 2026
At a glance
- Without an account, ratings, favourites, the bottles you own and saved scent profiles remain on your device.
- An account is optional. If you create one, your shelf is saved to it, and only people whose follow request you accept can see the bottles you own. You can delete the account in the app at any time.
- The weather on Discover is read for the place you choose. Sharing your location is optional, approximate, and only used to fetch the forecast.
- Reminders are optional and scheduled on your phone. Nothing about them is sent to us or anyone else.
- Interaction events help us understand quiz completion, perfume interest and retailer-link use. They are anonymous unless you are signed in.
- If you submit a brand listing, your email app opens a draft. It reaches us only if you tap Send.
- Buy buttons open independent third-party retailer websites.
- Sponsored banners are labelled “Sponsored”. We run no ad network and no cross-app tracking.
1. Who we are
This policy applies to the Scent Atlas India apps for iOS and Android, operated by Shaun Wadhwana. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to shaunwadhwana14@gmail.com.
2. Information stored on your device
The app stores the following in its own storage on your phone: your star ratings, favourites, the bottles you mark as owned, saved scent profiles and preferences; your weather choice (automatic, your location, or a named city with its coordinates); the last weather reading (city name, temperature, whether it is raining, and when it was fetched) so Discover can show it without asking again; and your reminder settings (which reminders are on and at what time).
Quiz answers are held only while the quiz is open unless you save a profile. Brand-listing drafts are not saved by the app. You can remove this content with the in-app controls or by deleting the app.
Phone backups. If you back up your phone (iCloud or a computer on iPhone, Google’s device backup on Android), this content may be included in your own backup so it returns when you set up a new phone. We have no access to those backups.
Catalogue updates and sponsored banners. The app regularly asks our database, hosted by Supabase, for changes to the perfume catalogue (new bottles, prices, sellers and photos) and for any sponsored banners currently running. These requests carry nothing about you, your shelf or your ratings; like any web request, they reveal your IP address to Supabase, which processes it under its own privacy policy. Sponsored banners are always labelled “Sponsored”. Whether a banner was shown or tapped is counted anonymously, as described in section 8.
2A. Optional accounts
You can use every part of the app that does not involve other people without an account. If you choose to create one, you sign in with Apple (on iPhone) or Google. We receive from that sign-in an account identifier and the email address the provider shares, which on Apple may be a private relay address; we never see your password. The sign-in and the data below are stored in our database, hosted by Supabase.
What an account holds. A username and one of the app’s built-in avatars, which other signed-in people can see and search for; the bottles you mark as owned, your wishlist and your star ratings; the people you follow and who follow you; and, only if you choose to give them, an age range and a gender. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over, and we record that you confirmed this.
Who can see it. Your username and avatar are visible to other signed-in people. The bottles you own are visible only to people whose follow request you have accepted; your wishlist and individual ratings are not shown to them. Your age range and gender are visible to nobody but you. Your ratings are combined with other people’s into an average score per perfume, which carries no names.
Blocking and reporting. You can block anyone, which hides you from each other and ends any follow between you, and you can report a person to us. A report records who made it, who it is about and the reason chosen.
Deleting your account. Settings, Account, Delete account removes the sign-in, your profile, the shelf saved to it, your follows, your blocks and your part in the average scores from our database straight away. What is stored on your phone stays until you clear it there. If you cannot open the app, email us and we will delete the account for you.
3. Weather on Discover and Tonight
Discover and Tonight suggest perfumes for today’s weather. You choose where that weather is read for:
On iPhone, forecasts come from Apple Weather. If Apple Weather cannot answer, the app asks Open-Meteo instead, which receives the coordinates and your IP address with the request. On Android, forecasts always come from Open-Meteo, in the same way. We do not receive, store or keep a history of your location on any server, and location is never used for advertising or linked to your identity by us. Apple’s processing is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy, Google’s by Google’s Privacy Policy, and Open-Meteo’s by its terms and privacy notice; weather data sources are credited inside the app.
4. Reminders
You can turn on an evening reminder (a bottle from your shelf for tonight) and a morning reminder (a bottle for the day’s forecast) in the app’s Settings. Your phone asks for notification permission only when you first switch one on (on Android, from Android 13). Reminders are local notifications: the app chooses the bottles and schedules them on your phone a week at a time. On Android they may arrive a few minutes after the time you set. We do not use a push service, and no reminder content, schedule or device token is sent to us or any third party. The morning reminder uses the weather forecast described above. You can switch reminders off in the app, in iOS Settings, Notifications, or in Android Settings, Apps, Scent Atlas, Notifications.
5. Brand-listing emails
When you use “List your brand”, the app prepares an email addressed privately to us through your email app (Apple Mail on iPhone). The draft may contain your brand name, contact email, fragrance details, price, product link, pitch and submission date. The app does not display or keep a copy of the submission.
No email is sent automatically. You choose whether to review and send it. If you send it, the information is processed by your email provider and ours. We use it to evaluate and respond to the listing request, correct the catalogue, prevent abuse and keep reasonable correspondence records.
6. Retention and deletion
On-device content remains until you clear it or delete the app. Account data remains until you delete the account, as described in section 2A. Emailed listing submissions are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to evaluate the request, communicate with you, maintain an audit record or meet legal obligations. You may request access, correction or deletion by emailing us from the address used for the submission. We may keep limited records where the law requires it or where they are needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
7. Retailer links and purchases
Buy buttons take you to a specific product page run by an independent retailer. Retailers may collect device information, cookies, account details, delivery information and payment information under their own privacy policies. Scent Atlas India does not process your order or receive your payment details. Availability and prices can change, so check them on the retailer’s page before buying.
8. Analytics, advertising and tracking
We use TelemetryDeck to receive usage events such as quiz starts and completions, selected quiz-option labels, perfume and recommendation views, Buy-button taps and retailer domains, favourites, ratings, wardrobe changes, what you type into the catalogue search (shortened to 40 characters) and how many results it found, which similar-scent, layering and Tonight suggestions you open, the number of bottles on your shelf, reminder settings, brand-form opens, email-draft opens, and when a sponsored banner is shown or tapped. The iPhone and Android apps send the same events. Analytics events never include names, usernames, email addresses, the names you search for when finding people, free-text submissions, email contents or your location.
When you are signed out, these events are anonymous. When you are signed in, they are tied to a scrambled (hashed) form of your account identifier, so that we can understand use per account, and they carry your age range and gender if you chose to give them. We use this to understand who uses the app and to improve it, and when we describe our audience to brands we use totals only, never individuals.
TelemetryDeck processes a pseudonymous device or account identifier and product-interaction data for analytics. Sponsored banners are paid placements, served from our own database and always labelled “Sponsored”; because of them, the app’s Google Play listing says it contains ads. They are the same for everyone: we never choose them using your data, and we share only total banner views and taps with a sponsor. We use no advertising network and no advertising identifier. We do not use this data to target advertising or for cross-app tracking, and we do not sell personal information. TelemetryDeck may process analytics data outside your country under its own privacy and security terms.
9. Children
The app is a general fragrance-discovery tool and is not directed to children under 13. Accounts are only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child emailed us personal information may contact us to have it deleted.
10. Security and international processing
We use reasonable measures to protect information we receive, account data is readable only as section 2A describes, enforced in the database itself, but email and electronic storage cannot be guaranteed to be completely secure. Services named in this policy may process requests in countries outside your own under their own terms.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The new date will appear at the top, and material changes will be communicated through an app update or another appropriate notice.
